What Do Junkyards Do With Junk Cars?

Did you know that junk cars can have a bad impact on the environment? So instead of letting it rot in your backyard, why don’t you just turn it into some cash? If it seems beyond repair and you don’t have time to restore it back to its former glory, one alternative you can do is to sell them to junkyards.

But what happens to junk cars in the junkyards? What happens to all those cars? Well, junkyards buy those cars because they can still be used. Here are three things that could happen to a car you sold at junkyards:

Rebuild The Car

Sometimes, old cars may still run but it takes some repairs and replacements. Depending on what car it is, some may choose to rebuild the vehicle. Some people simply love the challenge of making custom cars out of those that look like jink.

The first thing they do is strip the car. Any of the usable parts can be kept. The engines, wheels, and paint can all be replaced with a customized one. Car customization can be worth a lot of money but there is a market for custom cars and they can be expensive.

Sell The Parts

The most common thing that happens to junk cars is selling the different car parts. Believe it or not, some cars that look like a trash can still have usable or savable parts. As cars age, it can be more difficult to find parts because the production has already stopped.

With junk cars, the parts are refurbished and sold to repair shops. Sometimes, some junkyard owners just let the people pick out the parts of the care that they need and sell those parts.

Recycle The Unusable Parts

When all the usable parts from a car have been picked out, the unusable parts can be recycled. If a car arrives in a junkyard all rusted, it can go straight to the recycling bin. Aluminum, steel, and other metal parts are sold. They are melted and turned into other metal products.

Transporting Junk Cars To Junkyards

Although you can drive a car with a flat for a short distance, your junk car may not only have a flat. Additionally, the junkyard may not be close to your home. So how do you transport a junk car to the junkyard?

You can have them towed. There are towing companies that offer wrecker services. Some can simply tow the car for you to the destination you desire. There are also others that can help you find a junkyard to sell your junk car.
